img21BJJ promotes the concept that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend against a bigger, stronger assailant by using leverage and proper technique

Like Judo, Brazilian Jiujitsu (BJJ) is a sport that focuses on using your opponents strength and force against them using leverage, positioning and technique. BJJ’s origins stem from the Japanese Kodokan Judo which was introduced to the Gracie family in the early 1900’s in Brazil.

Since then, the sport has evolved into what we have today. Here at Beyond Grappling Club we love the art of Brazilian jiu jitsu, and teach it as a whole, complete system. We are not competitive athletes who fight for points, we purely enjoy learning new concepts and ideas, and testing them out in a controlled environment.

BJJ will help you get fit, strong, improve your core strength, have fun, use your brain and learn self defence all at the same time! It is one of the fastest growing sports and it is pretty easy to know why…. it is fun, relaxing and a great way to exercise.

How Do I Get Started?

What Do I Need To Bring?

Well that depends… If you are just coming in to see if Judo or Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is for you then we recommend you come in a comfortable set of training/gym clothes such as pant’s, a t-shirt or rash vest. try to avoid wearing shorts as you may take some skin off your knees. You can also bring a long a bottle of water, a small towel, an open mind, a big smile and a willingness to learn.

Do I need to get fit before trying your classes?

No. Just come in and begin your training. Each of our sessions are tailored to you and your ability level. Plus, you will build fitness and strength as a by-product of learning Judo and BJJ with us. You will also build your confidence and meet some great people as well.  Judo and BJJ training will change your life and make you fitter and healthier than you can possibly imagine!
